Spotify obscurity meter
How basic are your liked songs?
We rank every saved song by how mainstream it is — from I Knew Them Before They Were Big to Basic Bitch — using each artist's global listener count from Last.fm.
⏳ Hang tight — large libraries take a while. A first scan of several thousand songs can run a few minutes while we look up each artist's popularity. It's cached afterward, so future scans are fast. You can leave this tab open.

About
Before They Were Basic scores your Spotify songs by real-world popularity: 0 means obscure (almost nobody listens), 100 means a household name. Songs sort into ten tiers from I Knew Them Before They Were Big (deep cuts) to Basic Bitch (certified hits).
As of February 2026 Spotify no longer exposes popularity to most apps, so we use Last.fm's global listener counts for each track's artist (log-scaled to 0–100). You can score your liked songs or your top songs over the last 4 weeks, 6 months, or year — and save any list as a Spotify playlist.
